Wakegov Real Estate, based in Denver, was bought by real estate investors on Wednesday for $1.8 million.
The new owner, Denver-area real estate broker Chris Miller, is the new owner’s first choice to take over the company, according to sources familiar with the transaction.
Miller said he will be bringing the new owners along on a short-term lease.
“I have been in real estate for the past four years and I have been on the board for Wakegov for four years, and I am very excited to be the new head of the company,” Miller said in a statement Wednesday.
Miller, who has been at Wakegov since 2012, will become Wakegov’s CEO, taking over for longtime CEO Rob Bortz, who stepped down in August.
Miller’s previous roles included at Wynn Resorts, which owns Wynn hotels, as well as at WynN Resorts and The Wynn Group, a company he helped start.
Miller previously worked at Bortzo’s Wynn-owned Resorts International.
“Chris is a leader and a terrific leader and has a tremendous ability to execute,” Wynn CEO Mark Ritchie said in an emailed statement.
“We are excited to have him on board as a long-term partner.”
Miller, an executive and former U.S. attorney, was hired to lead Wakegov after his predecessor, Tom Zemek, was fired in September.
Miller and Zemak, who also was at the helm at Wynns Resorts when Miller was hired, parted ways in October after the company reported disappointing results in the fourth quarter.
The company posted a $1 billion loss in the third quarter of 2016, with losses for the first half of the year at $5.8 billion.
Miller is one of two former executives at Wynnedges Resorts that the company bought.
Another former CEO, Matt Grosvenor, left the company in March 2018.
Miller will be joined by Zemkis new chief operating officer, Jeff Klimm.
Miller became the owner of Wakeganz when he bought the company for $100 million in 2017.
A spokesman for the new Wakegov owners declined to comment.
Miller declined to say when he expects to be back at the company.
Miller also has been a consultant to the Denver Nuggets and Denver Nuggets Basketball Club.
The two companies have a long history, having co-founded the Denver-Denver Nuggets Basketball Team in 2003.
In November 2017, Miller left Wynn and founded the company with his son, Chris Miller.
